(8. Posadni Zdrug)
by H.L. deZeng IV

Formed on or about 1 April 1944 with HQ in Sarajevo from elements of 14th Infantry Rgt. and a large number of volunteer Moslem militia (Domdo), the latter comprising all by I Bn. and the headquarters elements. The Brigade grew steadily from 5 battalions with a total of 4,890 men in May 44 to 8 battalions with some 8,000 men in Nov 44. Tactically under German V. SS-Gebirgskorps. (1)

Operational History

19-22 Apr 44: Brigade participated in a sweep of the Konjic area that was intended to destroy units of the 27th and 29th Assault Divisions NOVJ, but most of the Partisans slipped through the cordon and got away.
May – Nov 44: a review of the Brigade’s monthly combat reports revealed a number of small-scale clashes and skirmishes but no significant actions. The Sarajevo area where it was located was heavily populated with German and Croatian troops and therefore relatively secure.
1 Dec 44: renamed 18th Domobran Brigade and assigned to 8th Croatian Inf. Div.
