by H.L. deZeng IV

Formed in Slunj/41 km S of Karlovac but its date of formation is unknown. First noted in January 1944 and some sources suggest this is when it was formed. During March and April it was in the contested town of Cazin with a Bn. HQ, HQ Co. and 1st to 3d Co. in a strength of 6 officers and 554 men under the tactical authority of the German 373. Inf.Div. (kroat.). On 29 June it was transferred to Vaganac/NW of Bihać for employment in Operation “Morgenstern II”, this being a rare instance of an Ustasha garrison formation being used in a field operation. On or about 1 July 1944 it was renamed I Bn./VIII Ustasha Brigade. No further information has been found. (1)
