(see II and III Ustasha Brigades for additional information)
Dec 41: in Bos. Novi/West Bosnia.
Apr 42: now in Vinkovci with an estimated 900 men.
Jun 42: transferred back to West Bosnia and participated in Operation “West-Bosnien.”
2-7 Nov 42: took part in Operation “Lug” in the area to the west of Sanski Most in West Bosnia.
18 Nov 42: deployed in defensive positions between Bos. Novi and Ljubija.
1 Dec 42: Battalion HQ in Bos. Novi.
Jan – Jul 43: location and activity of the Battalion is not known; it appears to have transferred from West Bosnia to Slavonia in February where it was reassigned to II Ustasha Brigade.
21 Aug 43: located in Čaglin/23 km east of Slavonska Požega in Slavonia.
25-29 Sep 43: participated in Operation “Herbst I” in the Dilj Mountains near Čaglin.
10 Dec 43: Čaglin with Bn. HQ, HQ Co. and 1st Co. – 6th Co.
29 Dec 43: ambushed near Čaglin by the Dilj NOP Detachment losing 17 killed and 20 wounded.
22 Jan 44: Čaglin stormed by a powerful force from the 17th Assault Brigade/28th Assault Division NOVJ, and in desperate fighting that raged for 36 hours the town was eventually overrun. There were no prisoners. The Battalion’s HQ, HQ Co., 4th Co. and 6th Co. were wiped out to a man with only 3 or 4 wounded survivors making it out alive. The Ustasha fought to the death for they knew what fate awaited them if they were captured. The Partisans reported the capture of 1 field gun, 12 machine guns and 130 rifles. Many other weapons were destroyed and not counted.
Feb 44: the remaining companies that were not destroyed in Čaglin, 1st, 2d, 3d and 5th, were in the Šid area of Syrmia on 4 February and were eventually used to form I Bn./XIII Ustasha Brigade in Privlaka/10 km S of Vinkovci in November 1944. What is not documented is the location and activity of these companies between February and November 1944, although it is clear that they were in Syrmia and Slavonia. The Battalion HQ was never re-established and there is some limited circumstantial evidence that the four companies operated under XVI Ustasha Battalion during that undocumented period.
