Formed on or about 1 April 1944 with HQ in Karlovac by consolidating and renaming a variety of existing quasi-independent garrison battalions and other units, especially the 3d Infantry Rgt. Brigade strength averaged around 3,000 – 3,500. Tactically under German LXIX. Armeekorps. (1)
4 Apr 44: Brigade’s III Bn. together with elements of V Ustasha Bn. began a clearing operation against 34th Division NOVJ in the vicinity of Ozalj.
5-6 Apr 44: I Bn. attacked at night in it strongpoint at Vukmanić near Karlovac by elements of 8th Division NOVJ and the Kordun NOP Detachment losing 243 captured and nearly all the rest killed or wounded.
20 Apr 44: IV Bn. took part in an unsuccessful attack from the Jastrebarsko-Draganić area on elements of 34th Division NOVJ that resulted in light casualties on both sides.
27-30 Jun 44: IV Bn. participated in Operation “Dünkirchen” in Žumberak, followed by Operation “Dünkirchen II” in the same area from 8-17 July. The objective was to destroy Partisan 8th and 34th Divisions in the area around Krašić and along the Kupa river/25-30 km NNW of Karlovac. According to German estimates, 603 Partisans were killed, several hundred more probably killed and wounded, and 19 captured. German and Croatian losses came to around 300 killed and wounded.
7 Nov 44: III Bn. lost 3 KIA, 3 WIA and 37 captured when elements of 34th Division NOVJ attacked and took the village of Zorkovac.
1 Dec 44: renamed 12th Domobran Brigade and became a component of 13th Croatian Inf. Div.
