The 36. Mountain Infantry Division Forli was raised in October 1939 and took part in the invasion of France. It was transferred to Albania in February 1941 and took part in the campaign against Greece.
The division remained in the Athens area of Greece until the Italian surrender in September 1943 when it surrendered to the German forces.
