Applicants first received 8 months of basic military and enlisted medical specialty training at the Sanitäts-Ers.-u.Ausb.Abt. at Bad Saalow near Berlin, promoted to Fahnenjunker-Gefreiten (Volunteer Officer Candidate Acting Corporal) on completion, and then sent to the Medical Academy to begin 10 semesters of study with instruction taking place in Berlin, Würzburg or Prague. In existence since the mid-1930’s, the Academy had the following organization structure during the 1943-45 period:
