The 15. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division was formed in Russia in November 1942 from surplus personnel of Luftflotte 4 and assigned to Heeresgruppe Don on the southern sector of the Eastern front. After suffering heavy losses, the division was reinforced in March 1943 with personnel from the disbanded 7. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division and 8. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division. As a result of sustaining heavy losses in the fighting at Taganrog, the division was not transferred to the Heer and was instead disbanded in November 1943. The remnants were allocated to the 336. Infanterie-Division.
