The Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine (OKM) was Officially formed from the Marineleitung of the Reichswehr on 11 Jan 1936 after a new law on conscription was passed. It was the highest administrative and command authority of the Kriegsmarine. In 1937 it combined with the newly formed Seekriegsleitung. There were two major re-organisations of OKM one in November 1939 and one in May 1944. After the suicide of Generaladmiral Hans-Georg von Friedeburg the Chef der Kriegsmarine-Wehr took over the administrative control of the Kriegsmarine.
