The Panzer-Abteilung 214 was formed on 8 January 1942 in Oslo and was equipped with captured French tanks and in April it was attached to 25. Panzer-Division. On 19 May 1942 it was strengthened by the addition of Panzerjäger-Kompanie 514 and redesignated verstärkten Panzer-Abteilung 214.
On 16 December 1942 it was converted to German tanks and became I./Panzer-Regiment 9, its French tanks were divided among other local units.
