The 3. Luftwaffen-Feld-Division was formed in mid-1942 and assigned to Heeresgruppe Mitte in November 1942. It was transferred to the Heer on 1 November 1943 and redesignated 3. Feld-Division (L). The division was dissolved on 22 January 1944 after suffering heavy losses at Vitebsk. The remnants were absorbed by the 4. Feld-Division (L) and 6. Feld-Division (L).
