The 277. Volksgrenadier-Division was formed in Hungary in September 1944 from the partially formed 574. Volksgrenadier-Division. It was sent to the Western Front in November and took part in the Battle of the Bulge and the retreat into Germany, it was captured in the Ruhr pocket in April 1945.
