The 454. Sicherungs-Division was formed from parts of 221. Infanterie-Division and Division z.b.V. 454 in March 1941. It served behind the front on the southern sector of the Eastern Front until January 1944 when it fought at Rovno.
In July it was again on the front lines facing the Soviet summer offensive and was destroyed at Brody, Byelorussia.
