The 213. Sicherungs-Division was formed from parts of 213. Infanterie-Division in March 1941 at Truppenübungsplatz Neuhammer. It served behind the front lines of the southern sector of the Eastern Front until 1943, though elements of it saw front line action during that time attached to other units. In the fall of 1943 it fought on the front lines at Kiev and in early 1944 it suffered heavy losses in the Cherkassy Pocket.
In July it was back on the front lines, this time on the central sector of the front and remained there until it was disbanded in September 1944.
