The 9. Gebirgs-Division (Ost) (also Gebirgs-Division Steiermark) was formed in Austria on 25 April 1945 from Kampfgruppe Semmering (also known as Kampfgruppe Oberst Raithel). The division was formed from a variety of Army and Waffen-SS replacement and training units, Estonian and Latvian police units, and Luftwaffe units, the latter of which included elements of Kampfgeschwader 27 Boelcke.
