The Infanterie-Division Generalgouvernement was formed in February 1944 as a Schatten-Division (Shadow-Division, used to reinforce other units or to be upgraded into a normal division) from alarm units in the Generalgouvernement area of Poland. It was absorbed by 72. Infanterie-Division in March 1944.
