Known war crimesSoldiers of the division shot the mayor of Stollberg for hoisting a white flag on the town hall and contacting the US forces to surrender the town and the shooting of a woman who threatened wounded soldiers who had taken down a white flag that she would have them hanged by the Americans, both in April 1945. A soldier of the division was sentenced to 3½ years in prison for the killings post-war. (1)
