The Division Nr. 180 was formed In Bremen in November 1939. It was called up as Einsatz-Division Nr. 180 on 18 September 1944 under the code word “Alarm Küste” for action in the Netherlands in response to Operation Market-Garden, the Allied airborne landings there. It was redesignated 180. Infanterie-Division on 31 October 1944.
