The Grenzschutz-Abschnittskommando 10 was formed in October 1935 as Heeresdienststelle 10 and redesignated Grenzschutz-Abschnittskommando 10 in August 1939. It was redesignated Division z.b.V. 537 in October 1939.

It was one of the units that marched into Austria during the annexation of Austria (Anschluss) on 12 March 1938.
