The Fallschirmjäger-Brigade Ramcke as Fallschirmjäger-Brigade Afrika was formed in early 1942 for the planned invasion of Malta, when this was cancelled it was instead sent to Africa. On 18 January 1943 the brigade, now redesignated Luftwaffenwaffen-Jäger-Brigade 1, was disbanded. Some soldiers were used to form a nucleus of the forming 2. Fallschirmjäger-Division but most would remain in Tunisia until the end in May.
