The Landsarbejdstjenesten was formed in Denmark in September 1940 as an organization of the local Nazi party Danmarks National Socialistiske Arbejder Parti (DNSAP) as an equivalent of the German Reichsarbeitsdienst. The organization was primarily for youths 18-25 years old but members existed between 16 and 40 years old. Many of those who served in the LAT later joined Freikorps Danmark on the Eastern front.
The LAT was disbanded on 18 June 1944.
