II Ustasha Battalion (II. ustaška bojna)

Formed summer 1941 in Hrv. Mitrovica in Syrmia. (1)

7 Oct 41: in Hrv.Mitrovica - together with Croatian Gendarmerie from Vinkovci and Hrv.Kamenica and Croatian Volksdeutsche from Vrdnik, Šid, Erdevik, Grgurevci and Ruma, took part in a small operation against the Fruška Gora Partisan Detachment, which was successfully surrounded but the partisans slipped through the cordon and got away.
Dec 41: transferred from Hrv.Mitrovica to Sarajevo/East Bosnia in a strength of 600 men and assigned to Jure Francetić’s Black Legion (1st Ustasha Regt.). Remained mainly in the Sarajevo area over the course of 1942 with frequent operations and temporary garrison duties in the rural area to the east and northeast of the city.
11 Apr 42: in Vlasenica/55 km NE of Sarajevo.
30 Sep 42: two of the Battalion’s companies were detached and sent to Jajce/106 km NW of Sarajevo as part of a large force that retook the town after it had been taken by the Partisans. The two companies remained as part of the defense force and were still there on 6 Dec 42.
Dec 42: Bn. HQ, HQ Co., 1st Co. and 2d Co. in Mokro/17 km E of Sarajevo.
Jan – Dec 43: remained in the vicinity of Sarajevo throughout 1943, with frequent actions in the surrounding area. Elements were in Vitez/9 km WSW of Sarajevo in November and in Vidrici/34 km ENE of Sarajevo during December.
Feb 44: entire Battalion with HQ and 1st – 4th Co. in Baltići/30 km ENE of Sarajevo in a rather depleted strength of 425.
Aug 44: renamed I Bn./I Ustasha Brigade.
